NMRA CV 61 - Configuration Data (Part 2)

CV61 controls various settings in the decoder such as Rule17 effects, BEMF, braking, and more. In WOWSound decoders this CV more limited than in mobile decoders. This is because on WOWSound decoders, BEMF cannot be disabled or manually controlled. We do not allow you to disable BEMF on a WOWSound decoder because it must be used in order to use the load-sensing Prototype Throttle Mode.

CV61 is a "bitwise" CV, meaning each bit corresponds to an individual feature, rather than a neumerical value making a change to a single setting. To program this CV, take the values in the values column corresponding to the features you want active and add them together. Program the sum value into CV61. See the table below for available options:

Bit Feature Description Default Value
0 Turn BEMF

On/Off

This setting can be used to disable BEMF. If BEMF is disabled, Dither will be enabled and is configurable with CV 56 and CV 57

NOTE: This setting cannot be disabled on WOWSound decoders.

ON 1
1 Button-Controlled

BEMF

This setting can be used with the BEMF Control Button to run the motor for a set duration/speed when the button is pressed.

NOTE: This setting cannot be enabled on WOWSound decoders because BEMF cannot be manually controlled or disabled.

OFF 2
2 (Not Used) Reserved for future use N/A 4
3 Enable Braking For non-sound decoders, if this setting is enabled, the decoder can be brought to a stop using the Brake Button.

For WOWSound decoders, this setting will enable or disable the Train Brake feature. (WOWSound default is enabled)

OFF - Non-sound

ON - WOWSound

8
4 Dim Headlights

When Stopped

Part of Rule 17. If this setting is enabled, the headlights will dim when the locomotive is stopped. OFF 16
5 Dim Opposite

Headlight

Part of Rule 17. If this setting is enabled, the headlight in the opposite direction of travel will dim automatically. OFF 32
6 Manual Button

Control for Motor

This setting can be used with the Motor Control Button to operate the motor when the button is pressed.

This setting can be used in combination with Bit 1 of this CV to advance a turntable for example.

OFF 64
7 Button Control

for Brake Lights

Turn on the Brake Lights when the Brake Button is on, and off when the Brake Button is off. (Enabled with the Trolley Preset) OFF 128
