NMRA CV 182 - Configuration Data (Part 3)

CV 182 is used to configure advanced settings for the decoder. See the table below for the list of features and a description.

Bit Feature Description Default Value
0 Alternate Motor Algorithm Enable this setting only if your locomotive is fitted with a 3-pole, straight-wound motor, or a "coreless" motor for improved performance. OFF 1
1 Keep Alive®

Control

This setting must be enabled if your decoder is being used with any style of Keep Alive® device in order for the decoder to function properly when on Keep Alive power.

If this setting is disabled, the decoder will use "Stop On DC" or behave as if on DC power.

ON 2
2 Packet Validation If this setting is enabled, the decoder will require at least two, identical, valid packets in order to actually process any user input. This is a safety feature which improves performance and reliability on low-quality DCC systems, but can as a result impact the responsiveness of momentary functions particularly on dirty track. Do not disable this option unless you are having obvious issues with the responsiveness of the horn not resulting from a poor quality DCC command station and/or dirty track and wheels. If disabled, the decoder will process every complete packet with data (including noisy, errant data) as valid. ALL WOWSound 4
3 Motor Delay If enabled, this feature will cause the decoder to wait for a period of time (approximately 2 seconds) before increasing the speed of the motor (in accordance with the Acceleration value). This is most useful for Diesel locomotives which need to build amperage through an increase of RPM's. This delay allows the decoder to increase the notch if necessary before accelerating. OFF 8
4+ Not Used Bits 4 through 7 of CV182 are reserved for future use. ON 16
